      Antonio Quiterio Aceves was born in La Valle de San Bartolome, Durango, in 1740. He brought with him his wife, Maria Feliciana Cortes, and six children: Maria Petra, age thirteen; Jose Cipriano, age eleven; Maria Gertrudis, age six; Juan Gregorio, age five; Pablo, age three; and Jose Antonio, age two. Aceves was granted the Salinas rancho, four leagues on the Salinas river, in 1795, one of the earliest grants.
